What is FTP & SFTP?
Protocols for copying files to your hosting — SFTP is the encrypted modern version.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the classic way to upload website files from your computer to your hosting account, using clients like FileZilla. SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) is the same job done over an encrypted connection, and it is what you should prefer wherever possible. Your cPanel hostname, username and port are all in your welcome email, and the KB walks through a first connection step by step. For simple single-file uploads, cPanel's File Manager also does the job without any extra software.
